last week, while shopping for new year's eve dinner at raley's, a man looked at the contents of my cart and went, "so you like meat huh?" he was the cute grandfather type and he said it with a mischievous smile so i didn't mind the intrusion into my otherwise "private" cart. i mean, who does that? i don't go around perusing other people's purchases.
so i obliged him and said, "well, yes i do."
"did you know that they are cloning meat? it was on the news. they will soon be selling cloned meat in supermarkets."
"is that right? did they say when they were gonna start doing that?"
"pretty soon, i guess. they can clone everything now. they can even clone you."
"hahaha! i think it'd be too much for the world to have two or three of me!"
he laughed like how i pictured a cute grandfather would — heartily – and walked away.
i just love it when people strike up random conversations with me.

oh, no apologies please! i love it when my stories/entries make people run away with their imagination. and you do have quite an interesting tale here. i wonder how it ends… do tell if you ever find the inspiration to continue the story.
for now, let me picture the cute grandfather in his early years. i am sure he’s quite the looker and yes, a charmer. (and forgive me if i am focusing on that rather than on the more important issue of cloning, LOL.) *wink wink*

This read like the beginning of a short story, something Ray Bradbury or possibly Neil Gaiman would write.
In my head the story progresses to the point where the old man is tranferring his conciousness to a much younger clone of himself. You meet him in the same store again, but this time you are the same age. Oddly though, you recognize his smile. And he strikes up another random conversation. “Cloning has advanced to nearly unimaginable lengths, and yet, I’m afraid, it has brought with it more questions than answers.” He leaves with a smile, still charming, still wise but now, you notice, just a little bit sad.
Forgive me for appropriating your experience. My imagination tends to get the better of me at times.
